Lieutenant Colonel Allen "Al" Shreffler was commissioned in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps upon graduation from Illinois States University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in History. He has held numerous leadership and key staff positions in Germany, Kosovo, Iraq and the United States. LTC Shreffler is a combat veteran of Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in peacekeeping operations in the former Yugoslavia.

Shreffler holds a Master of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems Management from the University of Phoenix, Phoenix Arizona and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Joint & Combined Warfighting School and the 82d Airborne Division Jumpmaster School. Honors and awards include: two Bronze Stars, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, Senior Parachutist Badge and the Senior Instructor Badge.

Lieutenant Colonel Shreffler will serve as the chair of the Department of Military Science under the College of Education.
