Linda Dodson Kelly received a B.A. degree from Pan American College in Edinburg, Texas with a major in Spanish and a minor in English. She then received an elementary teacher certification and a bilingual teacher certification from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. In 1978 she received a M.S. degree in Educational Administration from Corpus Christi State University and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi-Kingsville in 1995.
Prior to retiring, Kelly enjoyed a 35 year career in public education. During her tenure as a professional educator she was an elementary school teacher, a curriculum specialist, an assistant principal and a principal.
While serving as assistant principal of Los Encinos Elementary School, the school was recognized as a National School of Excellence and was honored at the White House in Washington D.C. While serving as principal of Los Encinos, the school was designated "Recognized" by the State of Texas. In 1997 Kelly was chosen to open Dawson Elementary School in Corpus Christi. Here she implemented the first Spanish Partial Immersion School in the state of Texas. Even with this new and unique program, the school was designated either "Recognized" or "Exemplary" by the state of Texas under Kelly's seven years of leadership. Since retiring from public education, Kelly joined TAMU-CC as the Coordinator of the Strategies of Success Program at TAMUCC. This program seeks to keep new teachers in the profession by equipping them with the skills necessary to become outstanding educators. Dr. Kelly also works for Region 13 Service Center. She mentors principals and coaches administrators.
