Dr. Johnson has been in the field of education for more than 22 years where she has taught 1st – 4th grades and served as a Curriculum Coordinator for Elementary Instruction across all content areas and grade levels. After earning her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University – Commerce, she answered a call to work with pre-service teachers in the University setting. Her research interests include transliteracy, professional development and transformative practice in writing instruction, mentor relationships for pre-service and first year teachers, and teacher education.
At TAMU-CC, Dr. Johnson is the School-University Partnerships Coordinator, a faculty adviser for the Student Reading Council, and Program Director for Barrio Writers. Her other professional roles include Past-President of the Texas Association for Literacy Education and co-editor of the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers Yearbook. She is a also Diamond level Abydos literacy facilitator and the author of Time to Write.
