Jerry Hilker is in his fourth year on staff with the Islanders. Hilker is the head athletic trainer responsible for the men’s basketball team and is also an instructor for the College of Education's Kinesiology Department.

Prior to coming to the Island, Hilker had spent his past six years on staff at Florida State University. Hilker began his education at the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education. He pursued his master's degree at Northwest Missouri State University, finishing there in May 1994. Since his graduation, he worked in a variety of settings before settling in at Florida State. Hilker also worked for Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic and Sports Physical Therapy Clinic, serving the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks, a former member of the East Coast Hockey League; the Tallahassee Scorpions, a former indoor soccer team; and the Tallahassee Thunder, an arena 2 football team. Hilker also provided athletic care to area high schools and academies. He has had the opportunity to provide medical coverage as an athletic trainer to the United States field hockey team at the Men's Four Nations Tournament in Toronto, Canada, and for the USA Volleyball developmental team on the Four Nation's Tournament in the Dominican Republic. Hilker has volunteered his skills as an athletic trainer at the 1995 Special Olympics, and in 1998 and 2008 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Jerry Hilker is married to Laura, and has daughters Kennedy and Addison.
