Katrina Cook earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981 and began teaching at Southwest Middle School in San Antonio. She received a Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 1985. She has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1987 and a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1992 and is a board approved supervisor for both LPC and LMFT interns.

Previous to completing PhD studies in Counselor Education and Supervision from UTSA in 2008, Cook provided counseling services in a variety of settings such as substance abuse treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, public agencies, and private practice. In spite of these varied experiences, her primary professional identity is that of a professional school counselor. She was an elementary school counselor for 8 years and Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities counselor for 10 years at Northside Independent School District in San Antonio.

As an assistant professor in the Counseling and Education Psychology Department at TAMU-CC, Cook plans to pursue research related to supervision of practicing school counselors and to support students as they develop their own identities as professional counselors.
