Dr. Alma Charles is an adjunct professor for the College of Education, where she teaches undergraduate courses in occupational training and development. She is also the director for career and technical education in the Corpus Christi Independent School District. She leads the Career and Technical Education, Instructional Technology, and Library Services Team. Dr. Charles has previous university experience at Our Lady of the Lake University-San Antonio, where she taught online master's-level courses in educational technology.
She holds a bachelor of science in occupational training and development, a master of science in occupational training and development, master of science in curriculum and instruction, and a master of science in educational administration, all degrees from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She obtained her doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Dr. Charles is certified in marketing, vocational supervisor, supervisor, mid-management administrator, and superintendent.
Dr. Charles was a marketing education teacher and DECA advisor at Alice High School, H. M. King High School, and Foy H. Moody High School. She served as an assistant principal for four years at Foy H. Moody High School. Dr. Charles then moved to San Antonio, where she was the career and technical education specialist for Northside Independent School District for two years. Additionally, she served as a consultant for Seguin ISD for the adult education program in a statewide pilot program for the ESL health care services curriculum. She has presented at several state and national conferences on partnerships and curriculum development.
