Mary Barnes is Assistant Clinical Professor in Kinesiology and Program Director for the newly accredited Athletic Training Education Program. Barnes has been part of the Islanders Athletic Training staff and Kinesiology faculty since fall 2004. She came to the Island University in 2001 as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer, and completed the Masters Degree Program in Psychology

Barnes, a Nationally Certified and State Licensed Athletic Trainer, has been assisting with the development of the Athletic Training Education Program at TAMU-CC in the role of Clinical Coordinator for the past four years, and was responsible in organizing and collaborating with local businesses, school districts, and Islanders Athletics to ensure students had valuable learning experiences through off-campus and on-campus clinical rotations.

Prior to arriving in Corpus Christi, Barnes received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA where she majored in biology, psychology, and athletic training. While at Coe, Barnes returned to her home state to complete a summer internship with the well-respected Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, CO where she assisted in rehabilitation programs with professional and non-professional athletes.
